This race weekend I did a double start in 2 series. I drove the Saker RapX in the Belcar Endurance Championship and I drove the FunCup Evo 2.
We had 7 drivers on the FunCup. That’s crazy.
Not all of us could drive the free practice and the qualification, because of technical problems of the car. My team mate, Davy Suffeleers for example could drive only an out lap before the big race.
After the podium of Belcar – where we finished P2 – I hurried to the start grid of the VW FunCup race.
So without a lot of experience on this right hand drive car (H-shifter also on the right side of the driver) we started the longest race ever from P112 out of 125 cars.
My team mate – who started the race – crashed the car in the formation lap at Raidillon. He drove on and because the cooler was broken, the engine was also damaged. First the team fixed the cooler and the bend chassis. When the mechanics started the car, the engine broke down. After 4 hours and 50 minutes standing in the pit box while changing the engine, we could finally race.
Without any major issues after the engine swap we could finish the race with me as the 2nd fastest driver on the car. P4 in class, P122 overall.
It was a great experience, however I aimed for a podium despite the lost 4.50h in the box.
Next race: 24 Hours of Zolder
